Is your little ones sleep consistently inconsistent?
With social media playing such a big part in our lives these days, it’s way too easy to jump online and see 5 different mothers mentioning something about how their child is sleeping.
Reading reviews and testimonials online about how someone worked on their child's sleep when they were 4 months old and they’ve been a perfect sleeper ever since. Whilst this is of course possible, is it common? Not really.
Infant and toddler sleep is not linear and even if you focus on improving your child's sleep, it doesn't guarantee that you won't face sleep challenges later on.
Children are in a constant state of growth and change, which is a beautiful aspect of their development. As they grow, their sleep requirements and preferences may shift, even if only temporarily, alongside various developmental milestones both physically and cognitively.
This means that we need to remain adaptable and we need to keep an open mind when it comes to the consistency of our child's sleep.
We can always try different things to make improvements and often we will notice positive changes. However, don't lose heart if you see progress followed by a regression after a few months. This is simply part of the journey of baby sleep and what we are here to help you navigate through.
Its having the tools and understanding on how to navigate these that makes it easier on parents - which is why we created our sleep guides.
A few of the pesky sleep issues we see arise then disappear multiple times throughout the first years of your little one's life are:
-
Early rising
-
Nap refusal
-
Separation anxiety (big protests and emotions during the transition to being away from you at sleep time)
Are you going through a bit of a speed bump? Are you struggling to get over the hump?

Our advice?
Avoid establishing expectations too soon in your little one’s life, as it can lead to the misconception that a child has a sleep issue when they fail to meet them, potentially creating unnecessary stress for the family. Gaining a better understanding of typical infant sleep patterns is the key to eliminating overwhelm when it comes to navigating your little one's sleep.
